Jack Whitehall is reportedly working on a film version of Bad Education, the sitcom in which he plays a useless and immature teacher.

The news was revealed by his father Michael in a feature for The Radio Times. He wrote: "I think Jack will end up being a very successful actor in film and television. I don't think he will be playing Hamlet but he's a great comic actor. He's doing a film of Bad Education."

The comedy ended in October, having enjoyed three high rating series on BBC Three. The comedian was previously working on adapting the show for US television, however it was revealed in May that ABC had cancelled the project.

No further details are currently known about the Bad Education film project, nor whether it would involve the other cast members from the show, who include Mathew Horne and Sarah Solemani.

Jack Whitehall, who was awarded the King Of Comedy title for the third year in a row at the British Comedy Awards last month, is currently collaborating with his father on the TV show Backchat. The comic chat format, now in its second series, is currently airing on BBC Two on Monday nights.

Michael Whitehall also said of his son in the feature "I'm proud of him all the time - I'm amazed how talented he is. He's so charming and generous. Most comedians wouldn't dream of giving their punchline to someone else, yet Jack is the opposite. He always gives me the best lines."

The former theatrical agent also revealed that a drama based on his 2007 autobiography Shark Infested Waters was "still on the cards". Should the project go ahead, his comedian son may play him in the project. Michael confirmed: "It was Jack's idea to play me, and I think that would be very good."

Meanwhile, writing about his father in The Radio Times, Jack revealed: "I was worried about telling my dad I wanted to drop out of Manchester University to become a comedian, but he was absolutely fine with it. He and my mother came to all my gigs in dodgy pubs and nightclubs around the country and I liked having them there."

Bad Education was written by Jack Whitehall and Freddy Syborn. Syborn's new post-apocalyptic sitcom Cockroaches starts on ITV2 on Tuesday 13th January. Whitehall has a regular role in it as Oscar, a South London poser-turned-psychopath.
