Sky have announced that filming is now underway on the much-anticipated second series of Alan Partridge's Mid Morning Matters.

The comedy, which stars Steve Coogan as his hapless DJ character, is focused around the local radio station North Norfolk Digital. The first series, which was screened on Sky Atlantic in July 2012, was originally made as a series of online short episodes for beer brand Foster's. However, Sky have now confirmed they'll exclusively premiere the new episodes.

The six new half-hour episodes have been written by Steve Coogan, Neil Gibbons and Rob Gibbons, the same team that wrote the critically-acclaimed first series and the character's bestselling 2011 autobiography. Baby Cow Productions is once again overseeing the filming.

In addition to the series, Sky have also ordered an hour-long special featuring the character. Details are being kept under-wraps, but the one-off programme is being dubbed as a 'hard-hitting documentary special'.

Sky's Lucy Lumsden comments: "We're thrilled that Steve wants to do more Partridge for Sky Atlantic. We look forward to seeing where Alan takes us next."

Alan Partridge himself says: "I am both thrilled, humbled, gladdened and excited to be bringing Mid Morning Matters back to Sky Atlantic. I expect those who doubted its success feel suitably chastened to never again doubt the wisdom of my career choices and to say nothing in response unless their comments are wholly supportive and positive. I hope I've made myself clear...thank you, let's leave it there."

The new series and one-off special will be screened on Sky Atlantic next year.
