Catherine Tate has recorded a new comedy sketch for Children In Need 2013.

The short special will see the comedian, in character as her foul-mouthed creation Nan, acting as the 'patient from hell'.

The sketch sees Joannie Taylor - aka Nan - making life hard for Holby City surgeons Ric Griffin (Hugh Quarshie) and Elliot Hope (Paul Bradley), plus nurses Chrissie Williams (Tina Hobley) and Chantelle Lane (Lauren Drummond) when she is admitted to one of the hospital's wards.

Tina Hobley says: "Over the years Holby City has faced flooding, riots and hostage situations - but nothing quite prepared us for the arrival of Nan."

The sketch will also see Gavin & Stacey and Bad Education star Mathew Horne reprising his role as Jamie, Nan's innocent grandson. He comes to visit his grandmother in hospital to see how she is getting on.

Speaking about the sketch, Tate commented: "Thanks to everyone at Holby, I'm happy to be involved with Children in Need this year and wish you all the best for the night."

The character of Nan first became popular via The Catherine Tate Show, which ran between 2004 and 2007. Nan then gained her own one-off festive special - titled Nan's Christmas Carol - in 2009.

The BBC is currently developing a potential new TV format for the character. As previously revealed by BCG, a pilot episode of Nan was recorded in October.

Nan's Holby visit will be screened as part of the Children in Need 2013 appeal night, which will be broadcast on BBC One on Friday 15th November 2013. The evening will be hosted by Terry Wogan, Tess Daly, Fearne Cotton, Zoe Ball and Nick Grimshaw, plus feature contributions from the likes of One Direction, Doctor Who and Harry Hill.

This is not the first time the character will have appeared in a charity-linked TV sketch. In 2007 Nan appeared on Deal Or No Deal with Noel Edmonds for a Comic Relief skit. Below is the video:

Tate's most famous sketch for Comic Relief though was in 2005, when then-Prime Minister Tony Blair faced Tate's "Am I bovvered?" teenage school girl Lauren Copper:
