ITV has acquired the exclusive free terrestrial television rights to the US version of "The Office", starring Steve Carell of "The 40 Year Old Virgin" and "Anchor Man" fame.

The first series of the Emmy Award-winning show appeared on BBC Three last year. But ITV has now stepped in to acquire series two and three. The second series is scheduled to premiere on 24th September (ITV2 at 10.30pm).

The acquisition marks a push by the broadcaster to increase the amount of comedy on its channels. "We are delighted to have acquired this hit show. ITV2 is the most popular multi channel on air in the UK at the moment and with the push towards comedy, this will sit very well in the schedule alongside the huge US hit Entourage" says Jay Kandola, Director of Acquisitions for ITV.
