BBC Three has commissioned a new comedy drama which will become the first to broadcast on multiple platforms.

Mouth to Mouth will cover the exploits of an all-girl pop band called Cat's Eyes. It will first be shown on web 2.0 communities, mobile phones and the show's own website, before it is broadcast on BBC Three. Extra online content will also expand the narrative, compared to the broadcast version, according to independent production company Avalon Television.

BBC Three controller Danny Cohen said: "BBC Three is committed to producing a steady stream of innovative and creative multi-platform projects. The latest of these, Mouth to Mouth, is all about powerful writing and great acting talent. The essentials of quality content are not going to change, whatever the platform."

The series will star Ayesha Antoine (Holby City), Pippa Duffy (KateModern) and Anna Nightingale (Snowdon and Margaret). It will be written by Karl Minns (Touch Me I'm Karen Taylor), whilst Avalon's managing director Jon Thoday will be executive producer.
