'Allo 'Allo! invades Germany

Germany is to broadcast the sitcom 'Allo 'Allo!. The series, set in occupied France during the Second World War, has not been broadcast before due to the subject matter conflicting with Germany's anti-Nazism laws.

The entire series, consisting of 85 episodes, will be broadcast on ProSiebenSat1, a German TV station developed for North American audiences. Isabelle Helle, head of German speaking-territories at BBC Worldwide said she was "really excited" about the move saying, "'Allo 'Allo! is one of the most successful BBC comedies ever made and is already loved in over 50 countries."

The series was based on the TV drama Secret Army, as well as other war dramas. The show featured a mixture of French, German and British characters, many of whom were stereotypical with over-the-top accents. The Germans tended to be depicted as kinky and stupid, although not as stupid as the British. The main German characters were Nouvion's town commandant, Colonel Von Strohm, who planned to make his fortune after the war by selling the painting of The Fallen Madonna with the Big Boobies by Van Klomp; his seemingly effeminate assistant Lieutenant Gruber; and Gestapo officer Herr Flick, sent to Nouvion by his godfather, Heinrich Himmler, to recover the painting.
