Former S Club pop star Rachel Stevens will be transformed into a nine-inch high plasticine character for Glendogie Bogey, a new animated comedy for BBC Scotland.

The 30-minute comedy, which will air on BBC1 Scotland in spring 2008, is being made by Edinburgh-based Ko Lik Films. The voices of The Thick Of It star Peter Capaldi and Taggart's Alex Norton also star in the new episode.

Glendogie Bogey is about two unlikely best friends who go in search of a fearsome monster said to lurk in caves underneath the local golf course. The episode follows on from the Scottish BAFTA-nominated Haunted Hogmanay.

The new episode reunites the characters of Jeff Wylie (Capaldi) and Thurston McCondry (Norton) and introduces the character of Patricia Ravelston (Stevens) as the object of Jeff's affection and a focus of jealousy for Thurston. Events take a turn for the worse for the chums after Jeff's plans for a romantic weekend with Patricia go awry when she's kidnapped by the gruesome beast. Only dynamic duo Jeff and Thurston can save the day and rescue Patricia.

Rachel Stevens is thrilled she'll be part of the animated fun. She said: "I jumped at the chance to get involved with Glendogie Bogey. I'd never done any kind of animation before. I thought it would be a challenge and this particular project seemed like a great one to be involved with - the role of Patricia is such a fun character, she's a bit contradictory. She's a total dizzy dora, but at the same time she's really smart and doesn't miss a trick. She's a real lady yet very feisty. She's cheeky, fun and sweet yet also strong, sassy and definitely knows what she wants. I'm really looking forward to seeing it. How many people can say they have a mini version of themselves? It's very exciting. Good job I'm not there whilst they're animating my character, I'll be there digitally enhancing and decreasing body parts!"

Cameron Fraser from producer Ko Lik Films says: "It's been a real treat working with Alex and Peter on both films but having Rachel joining us on Glendogie Bogey added a really fun dynamic. The three of them had a great time recording the voices and we're delighted with Rachel's portrayal of the feisty Patricia."

Gaynor Holmes, the Executive Producer on the project for BBC Scotland, added: "We're delighted to give our support again on the second Thurston and Jeff film. Ko-Lik are a very exciting company and it's a real pleasure to be working with such an ambitious and talented team."
