With Emmys, Golden Globes, Baftas and almost every other award going, the overseas sales of the sitcom have now beaten even Fawlty Towers. Add to this the US, Canadian and French versions of the show and their global DVD sales (over 3 million copies) and you have, as Ricky Gervais puts it, "a global phenomenon".
