New series of Extras launched to media

Monday 4th September 2006, 5:09pm

The second series of Extras has been launched to the press by Roly Keating, Controller of BBC Two. "In this second series, Ricky and Stephen have had the courage to move the plot on in surprising ways. Extras is a clever mix of outrageous satire and subtle, poignant comedy, skilfully executed in a brilliant plotline," he said.

The new series, which starts on Thursday, 14th September at 9.00pm, follows Andy Millman (Ricky Gervais) as filming on his sitcom begins and he moves from background artist to TV face. Despite his burgeoning success, Andy is still surrounded by the usual cast of idiots: his hapless best friend Maggie (Ashley Jensen), his incompetent agent Darren Lamb (Stephen Merchant) and 'Barry off EastEnders' (Shaun Williamson). This time around, the celebrity guest stars are Orlando Bloom, David Bowie, Chris Martin of Coldplay, Sir Ian McKellen, Daniel Radcliffe, Robert Lindsay and Keith Chegwin.
