Wednesday 9th May 2007, 6:05pm

BBC1 had a great night at the 47th annual Rose D'Or International Television Festival tonight with both of the Golden Rose awards dedicated to comedy programming going to the channel.

Andrew Collins and Lee Mack's well received new mainstream BBC1 sitcom Not Going Out scooped the prestigious Golden Rose for situation comedy whilst the final episodes of The Vicar of Dibley earned the channel the Golden Rose for comedy too.

The highly prestigious Golden Rose awards are very much sort after by broadcasters and programme makers. Programmes from all around world are entered each year in the hope of being named the best in the world. Contenders for the sitcom award this year included Alle lieben Jimmy (Germany), The Lighthouse (Finland), The Thick Of It (UK) and Little Mosque on the Prairie (Canada).

With these 2007 results Britain continues its dominance in the comedy categories, it has now been a number of years since another country has managed to win a Rose D'Or award for comedy. In recent years the comedy/sitcom awards have gone to Creature Comforts and Peep Show (2004); Little Britain and Nighty Night (2005); Look Around You and Extras (2006).
