The Thick of It struggles on return to BBC Four

Wednesday 3rd January 2007, 7:01am

Last night's one-off special of The Thick of It pulled in 237,000 viewers for BBC Four at 10.30pm.

The average ratings come despite great reviews in today's media:

"Yes, it's very, very rude. It's also very, very funny, the funniest thing on telly by a mile."
Sam Wollaston, The Guardian

"Armando Iannucci's creation is touched by genius, a Yes Minister for the modern age, with brilliant topicality its ultimate weapon." Gerard O'Donovan, The Daily Telegraph

"The best political satire for years." Thomas Sutcliffe, The Independent

"The toxic atmosphere was captured wonderfully by the cast's naturalistic, horribly convincing acting." Ian Johns, The Times

"The whole thing is amazing and hilarious... as well as intelligent (a rarity in comedy these days) and brave. Everyone should watch this blindingly stunning programme... and if you don't like it... you're probably a bit thick." TV Scoop
