The Vicar of Dibley bowed out last night with 12.3 million viewers, almost 1 million more than the Christmas Day episode.

In the last ever episode, love was in the air with Geraldine (Dawn French) finally attending a wedding in a dress rather than a dog collar. The comedy first aired in 1994 and has notched up 20 episodes in all. In 2004, it came third in a BBC2 poll to find out what the public considered to be Britain's best sitcom.
