Free Agents, one of the six pilots featured in Channel 4's Comedy Showcase strand, looks likely to be given the go ahead for a full series. If so, it will become the third pilot from last year's strand to be given the greenlight, following in the footsteps of Plus One and The Kevin Bishop Show.

Stephen Mangan, the star of Free Agents, told The Stage newspaper that a full series of the comedy is to be filmed this summer. When asked, a spokesman for Channel 4 said that plans for a full series were indeed currently in the pipeline, but also added that nothing had been definitely confirmed yet.

The original pilot saw Mangan play the role of Alex, a talent agent in the middle of divorce. The series also co-starred Anthony Head (Little Britain) and Sharon Horgan (Pulling). According to Mangan the full series will continue the "will they, won't they?" plot.

Written by Chris Niel, Free Agents is produced by Bwark, the company that also produced Sharon Horgan's recent Channel Five sitcom Angelo's.

Meanwhile Stephen Mangan is due to star in the new BBC Two sitcom about a recovering alcoholic. Never Better will form part of the channel's Thursdays are Funny line-up from the 10th January. The actor has also said that he is working on a new American series in early 2008, but has declined to say what.
