The popular comedy programme, based on Terry Deary's series of best-selling books, was also named Best British TV Sketch Show in The Awards 2011.

The awards, which have been running since 2006, are decided entirely by public vote, with every new TV and radio comedy broadcast during the year automatically nominated. 346 different shows were involved in the 2011 poll.

Mrs. Brown's Boys, the mainstream BBC One sitcom about a Dublin matriarch and her close-knit family, continues to divide opinion as it polled a number of votes for best new sitcom, but also scored the most number of negative votes - resulting it it being named the worst comedy of the year.

Meanwhile, Spy, the Sky1 sitcom about a single father who, desperate to impress his impossibly precocious son, accidentally becomes a top new MI5 agent, picked up Best New TV Sitcom; whilst Jennifer Saunders' Absolutely Fabulous was voted by comedy fans as Best Returning TV Sitcom 2011.

In the world of radio, Radio 4's Cabin Pressure and John Finnemore's Souvenir Programme, both written by and starring John Finnemore, won the 'best' gongs for sitcom and sketch show, respectively.

A separate Editors' Award, given to a programme, person or organisation for means of additional, special recognition for some element of achievement during the year, went to satellite broadcaster Sky for showing an impressive commitment to creating and nurturing new British comedy.

Thousands of votes were cast between Monday 9th and Friday 20th January 2012 for the annual awards. For the full list of winners please click the link below:
