The winners of the Broadcasting Press Guild Awards 2022 have been announced.

Rose Matafeo has won the BPG Breakthrough Award for her BBC Three sitcom Starstruck. The comedian, who won the Edinburgh Comedy Award in 2018, writes and stars in the comedy, which recently completed its second series on BBC Three.

Grant Tucker, chair of the BPG, said: "In their 48th year, the BPG Awards remain true to the values on which they were founded: celebrating the best work on TV and radio, voted for by those whose job is to write about broadcasting.

"2021 was a fantastic year for British television. The industry bounced back from the worst days of the pandemic with record levels of investment and programming, and our winners announced today are testimony to that creative explosion. It is also evident that, despite reports of their death, our public service broadcasters are very much alive and thriving."

Alma's Not Normal

A bitingly funny and unflinching take on class, sexuality, mental health and substance abuse.

After a recent break-up, Alma tries to get her life back on track. But with no job, no qualifications and a rebellious streak a mile wide, it is not going to be easy. Meanwhile, her heroin-addicted mum has been sectioned for arson, and her vampish grandma Joan wants nothing to do with it.

Alma's Not Normal celebrates women dealing with the hand they were dealt, while doggedly pursing their dreams.
