Marcus Brigstocke is set to host a new comedy panel show based on topics related to world history.

A pilot episode of 'Histerical' will be recorded next month for The History Channel. If commissioned, it will become the satellite and cable TV channel's first comedy show.

Producers describe Histerical as "a brand new comedy panel show that tests Britain's favourite comics and celebrities on their knowledge of world history... with a wicked, playful sense of mischief! Fun rounds will cover anything from hairy Stone Age thugs to landmark events of the 20th Century."

Joining Marcus Brigstocke on the show as regular team captains will be stand-up comedians Mark Steel and Kevin Day. The comedians will be paired up with history experts for a series of light-hearted rounds featuring history-related questions and games.

Brigstocke has previously hosted The What In The World? Quiz, a science-based panel show that was shown on Channel Five in 2008. However, following poor ratings, the show was dropped. He has also hosted I've Never Seen Star Wars, a BBC Four show in which celebrity guests must try some new experiences. However, Brigstocke is now perhaps best known for his role as team captain on Channel Dave's hit panel show Argumental. But, as previously revealed by British Comedy Guide, it appears as if Argumental is about to be axed (full story).

The pilot of Histerical will be recorded in London on Monday 6th December at the Clapham Grand. For tickets see our free tickets page
