BBC Radio 2 has commissioned a series of new comedy documentaries to be broadcast in July, covering comics such as Tommy Cooper and Peter Sellers.

The station will be broadcasting a 'Comedy Season' during July that will feature several documentaries covering both comedians and comic franchises.

The comedians under the spotlight will be Sellers, Cooper and Bob Monkhouse. Independent production company Wise Buddha will also be making a documentary about Irish sit-down stand-up Dave Allen.

Additionally, there will be a two-part series called Carry On Forever, which will chart the history of the bawdy comedy film series. It will be presented by Leslie Phillips, who starred in starred in four of the 31 films (Carry On Nurse, Carry On Teacher, Carry On Constable and Carry On Columbus).
