Michael Barrymore looks set to make his comedy comeback via a sitcom project.

It has been revealed via social media that the entertainer is currently working on a new comedy project.

Barrymore was pictured filming scenes on a sofa alongside Tom Brooke, the actor who played Bill Wiggins in Sherlock, Lothar Frey in Game Of Thrones and Keith in Cradle To Grave.

Following the tweet from production company Antenna Pictures, Barrymore then posted: "Brilliant second day filming with Tom Brooke. Never mentioned Game Of Thrones once ... class act, an a really nice guy. I'm knackered! Ha X."

No other details are known about the comedy - for example, whether it will be a television show or online comedy. When asked more about the project, the former Strike It Lucky host say: "The production company filming it put that picture on [Twitter] of us on set. I can't say, just yet. Still a lot to film."

Responding to a question posted on Twitter, Barrymore did add that the show could be a considered "a natural successor" to Bob Martin, the ITV sitcom about a troubled chat show host that Barrymore starred in between 2000 and 2001.

At the height of his fame in the 1980s and 1990s Michael Barrymore fronted many television shows, however his entertainment career was halted in March 2001 when a man was found dead in the pool at his Essex mansion, with signs he had been sexually assaulted. The star was arrested in connection with the death, but later released without charge.

Barrymore has subsequently won his case against Essex Police for unlawful arrest, however there is now an argument about how much damages he should receive. He is seeking £2.5m, however in a recent hearing the Police argued he should get a "nominal" award of £1. A High Court trial is expected to be scheduled during the summer to determine the outcome.

In 2014, Barrymore appeared on The Jeremy Kyle Show and spoke about a drug habit and attempting suicide.
