The Amused Moose Comedy Award 2016, which is based around Edinburgh Fringe shows, is now open for entries.

The competition, which is a spin-off from the long running new act competition, is now in its sixth year. The aim is to find the best comedy shows at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe from as yet undiscovered talent, whether emerging or overlooked.

The organisers say: "The winner of this year's Amused Moose Comedy Award will join previous winners, who include Tony Law, Marcel Lucont, Celia Pacquola, Jess Robinson and Richard Gadd, all of whom shimmer brightly in Amused Moose Comedy's Hall of Fame."

Last year's finalists included Ian Smith, John Hastings, Stuart Goldsmith and Jess Robinson. Richard Gadd's Waiting For Gaddot (pictured) was named the winner.

To qualify for entry, shows must be listed in the comedy section of the 2016 Edinburgh Fringe programme/website for at least 18 dates, and must not have won or been nominated for any other major comedy award, in the UK or internationally.

Entries from shows featuring more than one performer are welcomed as long as the cast does not change.

To enter, shows needed to upload a filmed preview of the entered show to the Amused Moose website. The deadline to enter is Sunday 7th August.

Videos uploaded to the website will be viewed by an industry panel, who will select a shortlist of ten shows. The final ten will then be invited to perform a 10 minute excerpt of their show at the Amused Moose Comedy Award Grand Final at The Space @ Symposium Hall in Edinburgh on the afternoon of Sunday 21st August 2016.

The winner will receive a shiny Moose trophy presented by the new CEO of the Edinburgh Fringe, Shona McCarthy. The winner will also be invited to perform at a London showcase event, plus receive "lots of exposure and glory."
