Steve Coogan is planning to perform live as Alan Partridge, for the first time in a decade.

He last appeared live as the hapless broadcaster during his 2009 tour, Steve Coogan Live - As Alan Partridge And Other Less Successful Characters.

However, with From The Oasthouse: The Alan Partridge Podcast launching on Audible on 3rd September, Coogan has revealed that he's once again contemplating travelling the UK as Alan.

"It's been a while since I've done a live show" he told Danielle Perry on her Elevenses podcast. "It's 10 years. I miss it. I sort of do it every 10 years. So, I think in the next couple of years I'll take a big live Alan Partridge show on the road."

He also revealed that he keeps a surprising piece of memorabilia from his radio show Knowing Me, Knowing You... With Alan Partridge, telling Perry: "In my downstairs toilet I have a letter of complaint to the BBC made in 1992 about 'Why have you let this appalling man on Radio 4, it's a disgrace'."

And he championed the importance of laughter, saying: "There's something about making people laugh that is a gift.

"I was probably more dismissive of it when I was younger but, as I've got older, I realised that, when we have problems or are dealing with things as a group or as individuals, often the only comfort left is laughter.

"So, I sort of treat it with more respect now ... it's an old cliché about laughter being the best medicine but I think it is profoundly true.

"Even though I've done the more serious stuff occasionally, and even in the serious stuff I've done this - using humour to sugar the pill of different topics. And comedy is how you sugar the pill of life."

Partridge is set to return for a second series of spoof TV magazine show This Time and will front his own documentary series for the BBC, while Coogan has been writing the forthcoming #MeToo comedy-drama Chivalry for Channel 4 with Sarah Solemani.

This summer he was scheduled to film The Lost King, a movie he has written about the woman who found the body of Richard III in a Leicester car park, with regular collaborator Jeff Pope, but this has been postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Coogan's most recent film, fashion industry satire Greed, was released on DVD and Blu-ray in June.

From The Oasthouse: The Alan Partridge Podcast

Broadcaster, writer, philanthroper and one of the first public figures to suggest high-visibility clothing for people manning temporary car parks, the public Alan Partridge is a cherished institution.

But what of the unseen Alan?

For the first time, this famously private man welcomes us into his home and audibly deshrouds himself for a fascinating series of podcasts. Over the course of 18 generously-durated episodes, Partridge grants us full and unfettered access to his off-screen life (within reason). In exchange for a series of payments from Audible, he promises an access-all-areas pass to the nooks and crannies of his hinterland, to reveal a wiser, cleverer, more reflective Alan than many of his more vaunted peers have given him credit for. He then sends the resultant podcasts to Audible ensuring they meet the technical specifications laid down in the contract.
