  • He will perform My Family: Not The Sitcom in over 40 cities and towns between February and June 2018
  • The Olivier-nominated show continues at London's Playhouse Theatre until 3rd June 2017

David Baddiel is to embark on a 2018 tour of the UK to perform his critically acclaimed stand-up show My Family: Not The Sitcom.

The news follows a sold out run at London's Menier Chocolate Factory and two critically-acclaimed West End runs for the Olivier-nominated show.

My Family: Not The Sitcom is described as "a show about memory, ageing, infidelity, dysfunctional relatives, moral policing on social media, golf, and gay cats."

It's also "A massively disrespectful celebration of the lives of David Baddiel's late sex-mad mother, Sarah, and dementia-ridden father, Colin. Come and be offended on David's behalf!"

The star explains: "When family members die, or are lost to dementia, all we tend to say about them is that they were wonderful. But if that is all you can say about them, you may as well say nothing: to truly remember our loved ones, you have to call up their weirdnesses, their madnesses, their flaws. Because the dead, despite what we may think, are not angels."

Baddiel recently wrote an article in The Guardian to explain why he is delivering jokes about the topic of dementia. "A lot of what I say is outrageous. But my contention is: if I - the son of these people - am not offended, then you, person desperate to be offended, can do one."

The UK tour of My Family: Not The Sitcom will run from February to June 2018. A full list of dates are listed below. Pre-sale tickets are now available via Ticketmaster

Baddiel continues to perform the show at London's Playhouse Theatre until 3rd June 2017. These tickets are also available from Ticketmaster.

In a separate development, its been announced that David Baddiel will take over the Channel 4 continuity mic this Friday (19th May 2017) to help raise awareness and support for Dementia Awareness Week.

Baddiel will be providing the links between programmes on Channel 4 throughout Friday evening introducing programmes such as The Simpsons, Gogglebox and The Last Leg. In his links he will reference Dementia Awareness Week and his father's condition.

The TV presenter will tell viewers: "Hi, I'm David Baddiel, Channel 4 is supporting Dementia Awareness Week, and as that's a topic close to my heart, as my Dad has it, I thought I'd do the continuity for tonight. And here's what Channel 4 continuity is all about - it's time for Hollyoaks!"

In other links set for Friday night, David urges viewers to talk more openly about dementia. For example, he'll say: "On Channel 4 tonight we're talking about an issue that affects so many, including my family - dementia. I'm here because I think the thing to avoid with dementia is silence. Talk about it, tweet about it. The hashtag is on the screen now. Now, the most important moment in any announcer's day, here is the news."
