Cocoon Central Dance Team are in London at the moment. Sunita Mani, Tallie Medel and Eleanore Pienta have been delivering their choreographed dance-comedy shows to audiences around the world for over a decade now. As they explain: "We have a hyper-earnest talent show quality with character-driven performances and people love it. We're physically adept, absurd, and committed." Let's find out more...

How would you describe Cocoon Central Dance Team in just five words?

Sunita: Joyful putty buddies for funnies.

Eleanore: Bombastic, very fantastic. I guess I only need three words!

Tallie: The best show in the.

And if you had a few more words?

Sunita: Cocoon is a gorgeous blend of high stakes friendship and low stakes dice-tosses across the lavender lakes of the creative process. We're friends who love fantasy, visual aesthetic, and trying to make all kinds of silly artistic endeavors and cultural critiques work together. Anything is possible, nothing is stupid, sometimes literally everything is funny, the absurd is sacred, the dropping-to-your-knees-laughter is a thru line, and we love to build something from nothing. We're best friends with growing attitude. And for all our cat friends out there, we're best friends with growing CAT-titude. And for all of our bat friends out there...we're sorry we never see you anymore!

Eleanore: We love dumb things and smart things and making those things intersect. Essentially, we love making each other laugh, and so we try to keep all of the things that do.

Tallie: We've done comedy together since college, with a shared love for spectacle and hyper-commitment. Once we realised our dance backgrounds meant we could choreograph together? Dreams are coming true ever since. Wow.

You've worked together for over 10 years now... how are you still talking to each other?

Sunita: That's a big question. And it's personal! I'm not telling! Only kidding, I think because it's so personal is exactly why we've been together for so long. Cocoon is a deeply personal truth for all of us, each in our own way, and it's a commitment that we took years ago without needing to say it out loud: I'm here for you whether you (or I) like it or not! It's been a higher purpose of love for all of us in different ways, at different times, and somehow the ebbs and flows have kept us moving forward. I know I'm a lucky gal!

Tallie: We love each other. When you love someone, everyone cries. Then you strengthen your vocabulary, make apologies, and make a new dance.

Eleanore: A great question. I think a deep love and respect for each other. We've had plenty of growing pains but it has only made us stronger and more appreciative of the thing we've made. And you know what, sometimes it's still hard, but at the end of the day, nobody makes me laugh harder than Sunita and Tallie, and that's huge.

How are you finding it being in the UK this summer? What's been your favourite and least favourite bits so far?

Tallie: So far, it has been very very funny. Luggage seized at customs, an unexpected trip to the Netherlands, a lot of rain in our tent at Latitude Festival. Our background is in DIY spaces and alternative comedy so it all feels as it should be. Favourite: Everyone has been amazingly kind. Least favourite: We're only here two more weeks.

Sunita: Truly just got here! And it's been lovely so far. I've gotten a little taste of your charming streets and facades. Everyone is sooo friendly and NOT moody like I was expecting coming from New York City. I'm shocked? Favourite: Cute, cheap lil' half pints. Least favourite: The Queen hasn't even called to see if I'm okay.

Eleanore: London has been great so far, so excited to explore more during our run. So far the purple of the lavender fields as we passed by them on the train. (Listen, I've only been here for a day and I'm on the train, my memory is shit so just let me have the fields, okay?) Least favourite part is the new custom/passport/border protection.

What can people expect from your Soho Theatre run if they come along?

Sunita: Spectacle and heart! A romp with a careful selection of artisan cheeses! 3 best friends who travel time and space together and they are in love with each other and with you. They have a lot of love and they show it all over their faces and bodies.

Eleanore: A joyful explosion of absurdity grounded in real emotion?

Tallie: After the show you will call your friends. Don't call them the C-word, though.

Any tips for those of us who can't dance?

Sunita: Close your eyes! Find your drum beat. And grind on it.

Eleanore: STOP THINKING. Embrace your body and all the dumb stupid things it does and just move it around.

Tallie: That is a foul lie and the truth is you're going to die one day. Put on your favourite song and put a hole in the wall with your ass.
