BBC launches Late Night Laugh show for smart speakers

BBC Late Night Laugh

The BBC has launched Late Night Laugh, a show aimed at smart speaker users.

The show will be "celebrating the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with a quick blast of comedy every night of the festival".

Talking about Late Night Laugh, the BBC explains: "It will feature bitesize chunks of comedy including gags and funny stories from the brightest new comedy talent appearing at the Edinburgh Festival and beyond. The 25 episodes will feature the likes of Phil Wang, Ahir Shah, Lou Sanders, Tez Ilyas, Kiri Pritchard-McLean, Dane Baptiste, Pierre Novellie and many more.

"Each new piece of comedy will be available from 6pm every evening by simply asking for 'BBC Late Night Laugh' or 'give me a late night laugh' on Amazon Alexa, Apple HomePod or Google Home devices."

BBC Late Night Laugh will also be available on BBC iPlayer Radio

Brett Spencer, Assistant Editor for BBC Voice, says: "We want to give people a way of getting into the spirit of the Fringe even if they're not in Edinburgh. Late Night Laugh for smart speakers gives people a little taste of the eclectic mix of styles the Fringe is famous for, with a short skit every night from some fantastic acts."

Late Night Laugh is produced by BBC Studios in collaboration with the BBC's Voice team. It follows on from other dedicated voice content for smart speakers, including the hugely successful 'Take Me To...' series for the World Cup, Wimbledon and the Tour De France.

Julia McKenzie, Head of Radio Comedy at BBC Studios, comments: "Comedy is hugely popular on smart speakers and we love the idea of people asking for a late night laugh. As the largest producer of audio comedy in the UK, we're keen to find new ways to work with exceptional comedy talent and, as comedians and comedy fans head up to Edinburgh for the Fringe, this is the perfect time to do that."
