Rhiannon Vivian: 10 Edinburgh Fringe questions

Rhiannon Vivian

Rhiannon Vivian answers 10 questions about her 2016 Edinburgh Fringe show.

Give us a quick overview of your comedy career so far. Are you happy with where you're at?

I started doing improv in 2008 and did my first show in 2009. I was so scared I didn't eat all day! If I'd known I'd be doing a scripted, character solo show now I'd have passed out with fear. And high-fived my future self when I came round, hopefully!

Tell us two truths and one lie about yourself.

1. I can cartwheel on my elbows.
2. I drink claret with a carrot.
3. I've been rescued by firemen from a bathroom.

Describe your new show in exactly 23 words.

Silly characters on a plane and personal reflections join up, as I take you through my love-hate relationship with flying.

Any cunning plans to get more punters in?

Wish upon a star.

What's your plan for trying to eat - and drink - healthily during the Fringe?

I can't recommend a delivered supermarket shop more highly. Day 1 and my groceries arrived and got carried up 80 stairs to my door, like chosen children. I literally can't let any of it go mouldy or I'll go to hell.

What will you miss most while you're away from home?

Walking on the flat and having none of it surprisingly turn into stairs as you round a corner.

Aside from performing, what else are you looking forward to doing in Scotland's fine capital?

Climbing Arthur's Seat! It's my sixth fringe and I've yet to do Arthur. Criminal. I plan to take some whisky and gaze at shrubs. Bliss!

If you took over programming a Fringe venue, what would your perfect line-up of comedians be?

Oh my, my heroes are sort of everlasting. Kirsten Wiig is my inspiration. And I still truly believe the poo emoji is this century's most thoughtful satirist. He just needs to talk...

Name the one person you'd rather not bump into during the festival.

I'd really rather not physically bump into anyone. I'm quite small. I already did the other day and we both went, 'gosh sorry' like tiny, polite Thumbellinas.

Why should audiences pick your show over the 1,800+ other Fringe offerings listed on BCG this year?

Because I think it'll make you laugh, really feel glad, maybe sad, a little happy, wistful... But most of all I hope to send you back into the fray feeling delighted and inspired to marvel at our silly universe.

'Doors to Manual' is at Just the Tonic at The Mash House at 1pm on 4-14, 16-28 Aug. Listing
