Gus Loomis: 10 Edinburgh Fringe questions

John Anaya

John Anaya - aka Gus Loomis - answers 10 questions about his 2016 Edinburgh Fringe show...

Give us a quick overview of your comedy career so far. Are you happy with where you're at?

I started as a sideman in a comedy magic show in 1999 with Paul Nathan. We came to Fringe in 2010 for the first time and in 2012 had the highest rated show at Fringe with our ridiculous children show, The I Hate Children Children's Show. I still feel like a comedy rookie, to be honest. More of a comic actor and musician, using scripts but, with a decent ability to improv and interact with the audience. I like where I am and doing Gus Loomis, but, have a long way to go and a lot to learn!

Tell us two truths and one lie about yourself (but mix them up, keep us guessing!).

1. I've been in the music business for 30 years.

2. I am a chef.

3. I swam with whales in Hawaii.

Describe your new show in exactly 23 words.

Gus Loomis is a comic musical show about an iconic singer/songwriter who is trying to claw his way back from enormous debt.

Any cunning plans to get more punters in?

Gonna try a sandwich board.

What's your plan for trying to eat - and drink - healthily during the Fringe?

I don't bother, it's impossible.

What will you miss most while you're away from home?

Mexican Food!!!

Aside from performing, what else are you looking forward to doing in Scotland's fine capital?

Seeing and listening to the great local music.

If you took over programming a Fringe venue, what would your perfect line-up of comedians be?

Dead or Alive?

Dave Chappelle
Eddie Murphy
Sarah Silverman

Name the one person you'd rather not bump into during the festival.

The Queen.

Why should audiences pick your show over the 1,800+ other Fringe offerings listed on BCG this year?

Its a great blend of comedy with a ridiculous character and really funny songs and ideas. I mean, who wouldn't want to see a middle aged man recall his 1990 boy band days with choreography or hear his 1970's sensitive love song hit I am Inside You? It has great audience participation bits, dancing, singing, impromptu karaoke and a high laugh count for a scripted piece. It is definitely something different!

'Gus Loomis: Still Live' is at Cowgatehead at 10:30pm until the 27th August. Listing
