Taking Improv to the next level - We improvise the cast!

Now in its third year, the Fringe's free daily improv jam returns for more comedy scenes and games based entirely on audience suggestions. Any improvisers who happen to be in Edinburgh can come and take part - we will expect both fresh and familiar faces. A completely different cast, a completely different show every day. Come and join the fun!

Where did the idea come from?

There are so many improvisers in Edinburgh - more each year, so we created a show where they could meet each other, cross pollinate and see what crazy ideas come out! Impro jams usually happen every once in a while and mainly attended by other improvisers. I decided to do them daily in front of an audience!

How does the audience affect the show?

Audience suggestions are key to making the show work. Before the show begins I get the audience to write down lines that the improvisers will unfold and read out in scenes and then try and make it make sense. I also ask the audience for a theme for the whole show, and suggestions of characters and locations for each scene.

What can happen in a show?

Almost anything can happen! New Choice is a game where the audience can shout "new choice" to make the improvisers change their previous line. The funniest one I've ever seen involved two improvisers riding horses, and every time they suggested getting off the horses, the audience shouted "new choice"! After the scene was over I told the audience that they never knew they wanted to just see two men jumping up and down on stage for three minutes until they saw it! Other highlights include the mayor of marshmallow town, kitten racing, and Jurassic Park with fluffy, cuddly dinosaurs.
