After taking home the 2012 Adelaide Fringe Award for Best Comedy, Michael Workman will bring his highly acclaimed show Mercy to the Edinburgh Fringe. In 1960s Cuba a man is exiled for criticising Castro's regime. Pushed out to sea with nothing but a pile of cabbages, Augustus must conquer his fears to return home. This is a comedy about family, love and strength.

In his first six months as a comedian Workman had already won the national RAW Comedy Competition (Australia's equivalent of So You Think You're Funny?) and been flown to Edinburgh to perform. In the following year he wrote a full length show called The Ogre which he performed in Sydney and Perth to critical acclaim, and was selected to star in the prestigious Comedy Zone showcase at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

Upon his return to the Melbourne International Comedy Festival last year his show, Humans are Beautiful won him the coveted Best Newcomer Award, putting him firmly on the comedy map. His rave reviews and industry praise, paved the way to sell out seasons in Sydney and Perth and a debut at the Edinburgh Fringe.

Workman's gothic and honest observations and philosophies make him one of the more unique performers in Australian comedy. He doesn't shy away from 'difficult' topics, nor does he simply 'toe the line', he is an individual and a thinker. Mercy is hilarious, moving and thought provoking. You don't want to miss this.
