Children have become adults and the 90s are now as long ago as the 70s were in the 90s. How did the future catch up with us so fast? Jay Foreman's songs blend delicate acoustic guitar with catchy melodies and surreal, often melancholy lyrics. You'll still be humming them long after you've stopped laughing. Join one of the 'top 10 comedians to look out for in 2011' (Londonisfunny.com) for new songs, poems, description-defying musical weirdness and 'laugh-out-loud jokes aplenty' ***** (Three Weeks). Curious mind: an interview with Jay Foreman

Documentary-maker, London Underground maven and Edinburgh geek. There's a lot more to Jay Foreman than musical comedy, as Emma McAlpine finds out...

More details

The Award-winning musical comedian Jay Foreman is returning to Edinburgh with his brand new show We're Living In The Future. Jay Foreman is set to appear at the Underbelly this August, flitting violently between subtle humour, catchy sing-a-longs and mindless bad taste.

The world of Back to the Future II with hover boards is only 4 years away, Lisa Simpson's wedding attended by robots was meant to take place last August, and the 90s are now as long ago as the 70s were in the 90s. Jay asks how did the future catch up with us so fast? And why (with the exception of smart phones, Sky Plus and sat-nav) is it so disappointing?

Jay's songs this year cover a myriad of futuristic topics, including a ditty about how to play real
life Angry Birds, a warning about the disgusting future of recycling (human skin sofa, anyone?) and a guide to modern text-etiquette.

Jay Foreman's songs blend delicate acoustic guitar with catchy melodies and surreal, often melancholy lyrics. You'll still be humming them long after you've stopped laughing. Jay's videos have been causing a quite a stir on YouTube. His comedy documentary Unfinished London about the history of London's crazy town planning has been a cult hit with more than 100,000 views. The unique combination of true historical facts and surreal dark humour has led to several other video projects, including The General Election Xplained, a video sent to every secondary school in the UK which won a gold award at the New York Festival for best PR film.

Jay's song, Moon Chavs, became a YouTube phenomenon with more than 200 different videos uploaded to date and over a million views. Stealing Food, Jay's most popular song, has been covered and repeatedly played by musical comedy veterans, Kit and The Widow in their 2008 tour. Jay has made appearances on Nuts TV and in 2009 he contributed jingles to the weekly comedy podcast Answer Me This!

Jay's brother is none other than Beardyman, the UK beat boxing champion, and the two have collaborated on stage at several gigs. With such talent surging his gene pool, Jay began performing comedy songs at University in 2005. He has since been nominated as BBC New Talent Pick of the Fringe 2007, won Best Newcomer at the Tuborg Musical Comedy Awards 2009 and placed third at the Musical Comedy Awards in 2010.
