Had a lovely few days in Romania. Visited my Romanian friend's family and spent lots of quality time with them all. Gorgeous country - I may have to move over and steal all their jobs.

Interestingly, not a single one of them felt that being part of the EU was a good thing for their nation.

They don't want to go and I don't blame them. Bucharest is basically an Italian city but significantly cheaper. Gorgeous architecture, food, weather...all with the odd communist block thrown in.

I wouldn't usually be swayed but that was a quality report into pug marriages

I went to Romania many, many years ago when they first opened Mamaia.

God, it was bleak. Everything closed at 7pm, people constantly offering 2x or 3x the official exchange rate so that could shop in the hard currency shops that sold luxuries like butter.

We went to Bucharest by train and everyone looked at us like we were aliens!
