Just saw the radio programme is being repeated.

Sketchorama Absolutely Special wins BBC Audio Drama Award

The Absolutely team of Morwenna Banks, Pete Baikie, Moray Hunter, Gordon Kennedy and John Sparkes won The BBC Audio Drama Award for Best Scripted Comedy (Live Audience) at Sunday night's ceremony hosted by Lenny Henry. Congratulations to The Comedy Unit, Producer Gus Beattie, and the Absolutely team for this fantastic achievement.

The show will now be repeated on Radio 4 on Wednesday 10th February at 11pm.

Hope to remember to listen. Maybe I'll put a reminder in my new phone.

Hang on. 10th Feb is a Monday!

Ah there's a correction. Monday 10th February.

Just a reminder about this.

I'm sure it will be fantastic.

Brilliant.

So funny I fell asleep listening to it.

Will try it again on iPlayer.

Loved the "Little Girl" sketch.

The same guy narrates Peppa Pig. Thank goodness my DS is too old for that now, although, to be fair, it was good.

Back to Siadwell, I'll look him up on YouTube as I used to enjoy Naked Video.

This is my favourite character of John Sparkes

It's slightly 'The Fast Showesque' really, but it preceded it. Maybe it's cultish because it's regional?

Fantastic - and Moewenna too. Did you watch the Little Girl afterwards?

Yes, absolutely great. :D But the one I cannot find on YouTube (maybe I will put it up myself as I have it on DVD) is where Gwynedd is pregnant and she says "It are a miracle" and you can imagine his reply. Laughing out loud

Lucky David Baddiel I say.

I was just about to post a new thread asking if anyone else loved Absolutely but suspected there would be one already. I love that this thread has been going since 2007 before the boxset was released and people were saying there should be a DVD. I signed a petition on another site about 10 years ago trying to get it released on a DVD boxset. It's threads like this that will have helped persuade the big nobs that its popularity warranted it.

I watched it as much as possible when it was first shown on Channel 4 but because it was on late when I was only 12/13 I had to cover my TV in my bedroom with my duvet to stop the light shining through the door and hearing the words "turn that TV off it's school tomorrow" :D

My favourite sketch by a mile is the 'Perkin' sketch. So brilliantly stupid it was like Monty Python but their style was in no way a copy of Python. Another memorable sketch was the pointless protest.

Q: What do we want?

A: We don't know

Q: When do we want it?

A: Now!

Q: What do we want?

A: Well nothing much really, I have most things I need but if you were to push me I wouldn't say no to a blender.

(and that's from memory not cutting and pasting)

Other favourites were the hopelessly useless Stoneybridge council meetings and the songs at the end of each show were mostly very funny. Sensible Hair and I Want A Baby are memorable songs that closed out the episodes. Another hilarious character was Bert Bastard played by John Sparkes who said to his spoon "You don't like having your head stuck in hot tea do you" while stirring it and would have a battle of wits when attempting to eat his dinner. He would wobble so much food would fall of his fork so peas prooved to be his nemesis.

Back then my dentist was the spitting image of Jack Docherty so whenever I was having dental treatment I would be sat in the chair thinking of Absolutely sketches. I told him once and he was bemused because he had never heard of Absolutely or Jack Docherty.
