A Very Peculiar Practice Page 2

Ahh the surreal nuns... I loved that programme.

They (the nuns) were based on some real life recollection by Andrew Davies of his university days. (Can't remember the specifics unfortunately.)

Best episode is probably the final one of series 1, where the university inspectors are sent in and the health centre is under threat of cuts. Superbly dark comedy. :)

One of the few TV series that I would describe as "a joy". Really gets into its swing by the third episode of Series 1. And the theme song by Elkie Brooks is not exactly catchy, but fits so well.

don't remember Hugh Grant's character

It was just a bit part in one episode. He had barely any dialogue (apart from a sermon); he just had to look creepily ghastly.

With a slightly creaky Scottish accent.

Ha ha, really? Excellent! :D

I only know that the nuns were originally scripted to have dialogue, but the producer said having the nuns (not really essential to the plot) would be an expensive extravagance (or something like that), so Andrew Davies compromised by cutting all their lines - thus making them cheaper and (presumably) better.

Astagafirullah!! Alhamdulilah! About time too. Though I do have it all on VCD, will be nice to get a proper copy at last.

I have the first series already. Unimpressed

As said, about bloody time! I "lent" a friend my DVD of the 1st series 5 fives ago and haven't seen it since.

People should buy this, watch it and learn... (Andrew Davies should as well - remind him that he was once capable of writing great original comedy-drama.) :)
