Just a short 'thing' about living near a writer of 80s Who:

Wow, I honestly don't know what I'd have done in your place. (Or at his). I have such mixed feelings about Saward, I grew up on his era and several of his stories are amongst my all-time faves (if there's a single story that cemented my lifetime designation as a Who geek it was 'Earthshock'), yet on the other hand I find the man extremely punch-worthy.

'mind-grapes' - nice.

I'm not sure if Saward is a hero of yours, but I really think you should talk to him. Why don't you interview him for your blog. That whole Trial of a Timelord thing with Pip and Jane Baker and the script in a taxi is a great yarn.

Ooh, that's pretty good, I particularly agree with Gene Wilder and Jeff Goldblum as being good Doctors. The black Doctor seemed to be tacked on and personally, I would have gone for Sleepy Hollow's Orlando Jones who has great energy and idiosyncrasy.

the advert is awesome

Does anyone know when it starts again?
I don't know if I will like the new one, but then I thought I would hate Matt Smith. (but I was a bit upset about David leaving in fairness).

This thread has been lost to the sands of time.

This is pretty interesting

Putting aside the idea that failing the Bechdel test equals sexist, it's obviously not as clean cut as that, it's odd that Doctor Who is so often accused of being apparently 'sexist'. Why is it singled out so much?

And when people say River is only there to do what a man (the Doctor) wants, and this is 'bad', why don't they say the same thing about Rory and his relationship with Amy? Or is it only sexist when it's a woman?

Welcome to the dark side Matthew, please grab a drink and pull up a chair. Why was the Doctor Who reboot so successful - particularly among the teenage girl demographic? I'll give you a clue - Jon Pertwee never got his kit off and started snogging people.

Doctor Who is incredibly sexist and chock full of innuendo - all of it directed at the Doctor - who's gone from wrinkly old space uncle to friggin' Hugh Grant substitute.

Ooh, the Bechdel Test, the Bechdel Test - just enjoy the programme and shut your pie wholes ya dumb tarts. Funny how the Bechdel Test is totally overlooked on romantic shite chicks love to write and watch. Did I enjoy this television show? I'm not sure, I better take a test. Twats.

Thank God we've gone back to wrinkly space uncle, now these Mills & Boon galactic soap opera storylines can go the way of the dinosaur - on a spaceship.

Having said that, it would be great if they actually employed a few female writers. There hasn't been a single one since Moffat took over, and just one in total since the show came back. Which is a little bit poor. It can only be a good thing to have a few female voices in the mix.

And only one woman director I think? And she did a brilliant job.

I misread 'Companion speaking time' as 'Companion spanking time' and got mildly interested. In truth it's a shit infographic - especially in terms of design.

Now that I can get on board with - ironically, I bet the shows would be less 'girly' and concentrate more on science and plot.

Plus I think we all agree that Moffat is capable of writing only one female character - who then becomes the template for every single female character on the show. She's feisty and she's not afraid to criticise the Doctor, that feisty woman. Zzzzzzz.

Very poor. They've had several writing the new books haven't they?
