Help identifying a sitcom

I'm trying to find a sitcom from late 90s or early 2000s.

It was about a woman who was engaged to a well meaning but rather dull man. She then meets an exciting amateur footballer and begins an affair with him. Any ideas?

Sounds a bit like Plus One with Daniel Mays.

There's an echo ........................

Anyway, not that we'll get any thanks (which is usual)

I can't see any football references in that so unfortunately it's not Plus One

bump . Any other suggestions please

Hey Robert. Thanks for the question! Love a brainteaser like this.

Do you recall anything else about the show at all? Vague recollection of what the characters looked like, even what channel it was on?

I'm pretty certain it was BBC 1 and the characters were in their early 20's

The Upper Hand?
The new housekeeper was an ex footballer.

Didn't have any element of cheating or particular established relationship though...

I feel like this happened in an episode of Birds of a Feather.

Yes/No? https://www.comedy.co.uk/tv/birds_of_a_feather/episodes/1/6/

Not The Upper hand or Birds of a feather .The whole series was largely centered on football

Oh, Atletico Partick.

that's a nice try but the characters were English not Scottish

Are you certain? Here are some of the episode synopses:

"Midfielder Jack Roan suspects his wife of adultery, while goalkeeper Pettigrew's wife has become a witch. Star striker Ally seems to be the only one who can really score with women."

"Coach Bonner has a unique idea for improving the balance of his players. That's good news for Jack, whose cheating wife Karen is making him more and more unbalanced."

"Jack's new girlfriend is looking like a temporary dalliance, and before he knows it he has a new partner altogether."

I guess it doesn't entirely fit with the "dull man" you originally described.

A Prince Among Men, maybe?
