Tell Me Another

Anyone else been watching these on TPTV? A selection of half hour programmes from Southern TV's archive of the series aired in the late 1970s with comedy stars of the day relating showbiz anecdotes, hosted by script writer Dick Hills.

Some very, very funny stories, especially of landladies and digs they have stayed in.

I wish more TV companies would make their archives available for viewing.

They say be careful what you wish for.........................

So TPTV DO, uncannily right after I posted the above, start another series from Southern TV's archive, BUT what was it?

The absolutely dire kids "quiz" from 1978 "Runaround" with the cockney comedian Mike Read as the host. I remember this being on TV and thinking how bad it was then, but NOW it looks even worse!

Bloody awful. Extremely tacky, cheap prizes (one was a Prinz pocket camera - the absolutely cheapest own label one from Dixons), and then at the end no one won a prize anyway! Wha!?! And as for Mike Read, well he was the last bloke you'd want hosting a kid's programme - I remember in the early 80s watching a porno racist video of his stand-up recorded in a private club.

And Health & Safety? The kids (about 10 of them) were brought on to the set on a wagon hauled by two huge long horned bullocks with the set being surrounded by about a hundred other chanting kids, and I thought this could go so terribly wrong if those steers were spooked.
After that debacle, two traction engines were brought on (not the type of vehicle that can stop on a sixpence), and again (!!!) - the second really old one being driven by a misfiring paraffin engine that filled the studio with acrid blue smoke. Jeez...........
