As far as I know, Boycie's name was Herman Terrance Aubrey Boyce.

Traditionally (and certainly during Boycie's youth), it was common practice among the English working class for people to be known by their middle name rather than their first name.

If a person had more than two forenames, it was common for them to be known by the last of those forenames.

Hence, Herman Terrance Aubrey Boyce would have been known to his friends and family as Aubrey.
