Critics out of tune with audiences?

In the world of entertainment, there have been several occasions upon which critical reviews turned out to be at odds with public opinion.

In 1961, "The Sound of Music" opened at London's Palace Theatre to terrible reviews - and promptly ran for seven years.

It's stories like that (and others) that writers and performers should bear in mind whenever anybody speaks ill of their work.

If you think you've got something, don't ever chuck it away simply because an expert tells you you haven't.
