Eddie Braben biopic

"Stephen Tompkinson to play Eddie Braben in BBC biopic"

Stephen Tompkinson? OK, I'll buy and maybe the Ernie actor but the Eric Morecambe? Good God no - why didn't they use the chap from the "Eric and Ernie" TV biopic from about 5 years ago? He was absolutely brilliant and did at least look like him.

Cannot understand why, if you are going to make something like this that you at least try and get somebody who looks like the person.

There's more to it than putting black horn-rimmed glasses on somebody and saying "Get out of that" "Short fat hairy legs" "Tea Ern?" Anyone can do that and you instantly know who they are trying to impersonate - he just looks like Paul Whitehouse on a bad day.

No, if you are going to do this, at least get someone who looks like the subject - NOT someone who looks nothing like them.

Agreed - nothing like him.
And you're right, Daniel Rigby was brilliant in "Eric & Ernie".
Better still, Bob Golding, who's played him on stage...

...as well as in the brilliant "Last Laugh" by Paul Hendy...

Maybe they were asked but didn't want to be typecast...?

Amazed they didn't ask Vic Reeves. Agree it will take some mental athleticism to see that actor as Eric Morecambe. The two of them look more like Little and Large than Morecambe and Wise.

Yes, you're right Alf - I knew I had seen them somewhere. :D

And Vic played Eric's father in "Eric and Ernie" I seem to remember.

Give him a chance chaps.

Apparently he got he job because they couldn't get Lenny Henry.

No. It's inexcusable - compare the first two photos in this thread.
