I will actually watch this episode again at some point. Who knows, perhaps a second viewing will go down better. Does happen.
You're right that they've had much better episodes and the show is quite consistent.
I did enjoy it but I felt it would have been better at 30 minutes rather than 45. The scene where they were being chased around the shop got boring very quickly. Whilst I didn't think it was as strong as past episodes, it was strong enough to keep me watching and I hope to see more next year.
Well this was... different. Strange tone for a Christmas episode and while they have done horror-esque stuff before (to surprisingly good effect) in the camping and haunted house episodes, they still felt very much like NGO. A more bumbling comedy robber might have been better. Some funny lines, mainly from Daisy, but I generally disliked the episode.
