I recognised the game but haven't actually played it. It looks good but as with 97% of the world, the references went over my head.

Great animation.

I'd love to try animation, can anyone suggest a free / cheap animation programme?
One that's easy to use.

Any advice? I've never tried it before.

I use Flash and Anime Studio. I'm not sure about free but there are trails available so you can try them out see how you find them for beginners you might find Anime studio is easiest as an entry tool.
