Advice for a beginner

Hi all new to the forum.

I'm looking for advice on how to get into stand-up and also some advice on some shows based in the north east that I can first attend to study to get a feel for things before I attempt it.

Although I have never attempted anything like this my sense of humour is more the dark/controversial type comedy that often gets told by the likes of Jim Jefferies, Frankie Boyle, Jimmy Carr etc but also I tend to do a bit of ranty stuff like Rhod Gilbert too.

As I have stated I've never tried any real comedy yet however when I've got into it around friends, family, colleagues or even strangers in the same bar for example I've always seemed to get good reactions to my jokes.

I've always wanted to give stand-up a try and any information will be appreciated.

I've recently saw that there is a Hilarity Bites show at my local town hall on the 20th of this month so I'be bought myself a ticket to that to go and take notes.

Welcome :)

I don't suppose you have any help or any direction you could point me in do you?

Kinda feel like Elizabeth Fritzel upon her release atm in that I'm afraid and confused about the new world I'm about to enter.
