I only know him from the Naked Gun movies. R.I.P.!

Very sad. :( Poor old Uncle Vernon.

Both a very young age to die, and very surprising that he was that young! He must have been a lot younger than he looked when he was in Withnail and I.

That's a shame.

Just saw this, so so sad, I was only watching him the other night in Withnail & I.
May he rest in peace.

Lovely man, RIP Richard. Did this project for me when I was at Film School, wouldn't take a bean either, drove all the way back and down from the midlands and learned it all to do it one take. Very sad news.

Yes he was a lovely, generous man.
Did a couple of voice-overs with him, and he was never the kind of actor to let you think that advertising was beneath him (plenty did!) - always showed an interest in what we were doing, even if it was just a silly yoghurt ad.

Wonderful character actor, very sad news

He'll forever be Uncle Monty to me.

RIP.

Yeah he was the best, every way.

Yeah he was the best, every way.

What did he say? Did he have any stories to tell or anything?

His talent for being so completely human - so authentic - in any role will be missed.

I'm a bit sorry that some of the stories - this side, anyway - say he was best known for Harry Potter. He was lovely in that but I think first of History Boys or Withnail. And Pie in the Sky was one of my first exposures to British television. I blame it for my obsessive and expensive dedication to what I think are called comedy dramas.

Shedding a tear in Toronto.
