Benny Hill Page 3

I wouldn't be at all surprised if there were some Saville type rumours about him though.

Yeah, let's brand everyone a paedo just to be safe.

Benny Hill was a talented comic but his shows became quite queasy watching towards end. Long segments made no real attempt at humour, just these old men leering at Hill's Angels, a dance troupe with a wardrobe that would not have looked out of place in a lap dance club and moves to match. It was a flimsy undergarment away from being soft porn, and pre-watershed on a mainstream channel, frankly embarrassing (and I say that that as someone who likes porn...)

Fair point, but as I've said that was at the end of his career, surely we have to juge him on his whole career

I don't disagree, I am just answering those who would have us believe that he was a victim of political correctness gone crazy and treated unforgivably by ITV.

I do feel Thames did lead him down the garden path, but must agree the party was nearly over anyway.

All I'm saying is I would have liked to have been in one or two of those sketches! Especially the crazy chases at the end credits! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7RQN188pujc

I agree with the comments about him being a comedy genius. I loved the impressions he did of famous people even though they owed more to characature as opposed to spot on impersonation. Delighted to come across a complete BBC show from 1968 on YouTube, probably hia last series for the corporation before moving to Thames.

One bugbear I have always had about Benny was his shameless re-cycling of old gags. He would use them time and time again on the Thames shows and on his song parodies on record. No excuse for re-treads on the Thames shows he only did about four a year.

One recurring sight gag which was always made me laugh was when you would see an attractive girl who would show a mouthful of black teeth when she smiled.

Has anyone seen Ben Elton's affectionate tribute to him? Very funny, plus taking the piss out of Elton's PC image. Look for Benny Elton on YouTube.

That is actually very funny. From the first episode of Harry Enfield And Chums, according to the video uploader.

What's so funny about a blocked video?

Sorry but this has the full episode of the first series featuring the Benny Hill chase spoof.

Not for me I'm afraid. Aaron's short version did work.

Nice one :D

So the full episode is available in the UK and blocked overseas, whilst the single sketch is blocked in the UK but perfectly available internationally.

Huh. Go figure.
