Does it matter? One thing that Britain does well is to assimilate foreign people and turn them into British people. This is already looking dated because the face of UK Muslims has changed so radically.

For every hardcore fantatic created, there are ten Westernised Islamics who sneak out for pre-marital sex, drink and eat bacon. If anything, the hardline fatwa makers should be applauding this show for reinforcing the stereotypes and keeping their faithful in line.

British people like everyone to be the same, so from Oliver Cromwell to Oswald Moseley to Abu Hamza - if you don't fit in with what we want and try to impose your own values, you are gone.

If that was accurate, half of this country's social problems would be gone in an instant. Unfortunately, it's not. A promotion of multiculturalism rather than British identity means there's no common Britishness; ethnic minorities live increasingly in ghettos, largely isolated from other social and ethnic groups. It's particularly true of the younger generations, who've grown up with a romanticised view of their "home country". The grandparents who first migrated here are the most likely to be integrated - particularly Sikhs, in my experience - and appreciate what Britain offers, having had actual real experience of life in countries like India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.

No, it's a continuing cycle of immigration and has always been thusly - the Chinese, the Irish, the Jews were all in economic and cultural ghettos when they first arrived in great numbers. But guess what? They were assimilated by Britian, learned to become British and then flourished. It will be the same for the various Southern Asian communities here in the UK.

It might take a couple of generations, but it's already starting to happen. Then they'll be the next influx of a foreign underclass to cater to the newly affluent. There is nothing new under the sun.

Except the precise opposite is happening. Grandparents are often integrated whilst the current teens-and-twenties generation can often be found moaning about how dreadful this country is and how much they'd love to live in Pakistan. Even those who appear outwardly westernised, like Mr Khan's (elder?) daughter in this show.

I don't think you've met a lot of young British Muslim people, most of the ones I've met don't wear traditional clothing, don't listen to traditional music and most have a Westernised enterpenuerial mindset. And they're all out shagging like rabbits in heat.

In case I have to bring up history again to make my point - how many Jews do you see walking around London in the full Hassidic garb? How many do you see even wearing a Yamaka? In the space of a few decades, one of the most religously zealous and closed off communities has become an antiquity.

If young people are disgruntled, it has more to do with the lack of jobs, money, opportunities, etc. then any cultural value clash.

I've met plenty. I grew up in an area where I was the ethnic minority, to Muslims. There are exceptions, of course, and there are people who have integrated better than others, but as a generalisation, your assertion is quite the opposite to my own past and continuing experience. And you can bet your last pound that however westernised many (not all) youngsters on the streets appear, their private attitudes are the complete opposite.

Aaron - shouldn't views like that be on an EDF forum? I'm a British born Indian and I'm Hindu. Your uninformed comments highlight the issue of people like yourself judging a whole swathe of the population who have nothing to do with Islam. Even though I am not a muslim and am fully integrated having grown up in my sleepy little Surrey village, your views are abhorrent. It seems since 9/11, the biggest ills of the poorest parts of the muslim community are frequently used to describe everyone from the sub-continent. All this bigotry and on a damn comedy website.

I don't know which cosseted greenbelt cloud nine you live on, but you certainly haven't been around much. You show no knowledge whatsoever of the real world out there. Most UK WASPs/RCs/Jews I can think of aren't even "assimilated", let alone the tribes of so-called "foreigners" here...

..and if you think that's racist, think again. I apply that self-same judgment to all ex-pat communities, wherever they may be: the Brits in Dubai/Spain; the Ismaelis in South London etc. etc. Humans are the same the world over: "tribes" stick together for protection, wherever they find themselves...
