Marmite Comedies: Shows People Either Love or Hate Page 4

CL is, to our very great shame, one of Britain's most-underrated sitcom writers.

When people talk about writers that re-shaped British TV, her name is inexplicably often absent from the list.

A British sitcom about a married woman having an affair? That was ground-breaking television.

A Sitcom about a useless woman who couldn't do anything, who lived off her husband she treated like crap, and had rebellious kids she largely ignored. The poor charlady /cleaner with real problems....and she wanted to have a affair but wasn't brave enough...torture to watch.

Or Aaron with Spaced?

Nah. It's such a poor show it's not even worth getting angry about.

Green Wing?

Here here Carla Lane was like a second rate play write who covered it up by being a 3rd rate sitcom writer. Her sitcoms managed to be as lifeless as they were patronising and thuddingly unfunny.

I used to hope her rescue animals would eat her.

Now I hope they sexually molest her before eating her.

Green Wing?

First sensible thing you've said all year, Sunshine. Very Marmitey show.

I never really got Green Wing.

It felt like it was
"this is a really wacky setting with mad characters we don't need jokes!"

My thoughts exactly.

I really liked Green Wing, it was fun, and had some great characters. Though I wish it had just been half hour episodes.

Green Wing was fantastic.

When I watched it on DVD I broke it down into smaller segments.

Like a satsuma.

This.

Looks like it definitely qualifies as Marmite comedy then!

Except I like marmite
