Hidden Catchphrases

Dara O Briain - 'Errrrrrrr...'
Jo Brand - 'And um...'
Ross Noble - 'The Errr...'
Eddie Izzard - 'Sooo yeah...'
Joan Rivers - 'It is just...'

Anymore for anymore?

Stephen Fry sticking his finger in his ear.

Or tidying his cards every 5 seconds.

Is that a euphemism?

You're right about Jo Brand, she always does say, "And um ..."

I don't think she qualifies as a comedienne as she doesn't do anything but panel shows. When she turned up on Have I Got Election News for You as the host I just though, "Oh my goodness ... someone put a bullet in me quick."

She's been doing stand up for years! Decades. I think that counts as a comedian. ;)

I really like Jo Brand :)

Back on the subject of hidden catchphrases, I think Noel Fielding's overtly casual sip of a drink must apply.*

* I base this purely on his appearances on Buzzcocks.

He (and Julian) do a fake pause just before saying the last word or two of a funny punchline, to make it sound like they've just made it up.

It is very effective!

Johnny Casson, "and umm" at the end of every joke.

Ronnie Corbett "UM"s a lot in Sorry!. Until you notice it, it's not a problem, and then it is.

Caroline Aherne as Mrs Merton - 'Ya Know...'
