Things that piss you off Page 799

My house smells of broccoli. :(

Why would someone want to make broccoli soup? Whyyy?

Yeah, Valentine's Day is quite recent as a massive commercial thing here, but as soon as it gets near you can't move for vomit inducing frilly pink blatantly-cashing-in products. Can't stand it, the fakest, nastiest occasion in my opinion.

Yup. Much nicer to do something romantic on a random day or one that is special to you instead of on one everyone else is.

Teary tears up secret Valentines Card he was going to give to AJGO, then has angry cry wank over owl porn.

Roses are red
Violets are blue
Be my valentine
Or I'll eviserate you

I don't like flowers on the bed
I don't like flowers that are red
I'm a necrophiliac
There's no small talk when you're dead.

Do you think Hallmark might be interested?

I hate myself for laughing out loud at that

The heat. A quick Googgle tells me that is curently 26C. It's 2am. Should be around the low twenties for this time of year.

Anyone want to swap? Will happily trade for snow even if it is cold. At least I could get warm.

You're in Brissie, right? I don't fancy 26c at night, no thanks. No snow here in Blighty, I reckon we'll be having the 'mildest* January on record' or somesuch. Nice and cool, like having the air con on outside....envious?

*Actually every month is the something-est on record.

You dirty bastard.

;)

In Japan, only the men get gifts on Valentines day.

The women have to wait until White day.

I hate it. I wrote a piece about it yonks ago and the site I wrote it for got a lot of approving messages about it. It's good to be bitter.

Luckily 26c at night is rare. Usually the lower 20's for night time temperatures this time of year.
I am very envious. Even in Winter here the lowest day temps are around 15c on one or two days in the entire season. Usually feels colder though because of the wind chill. Anyway point is some people here start complaining about the cold at around 18c. Just because you need to put a long sleeved shirt on doesn't make it cold. It's all fair though, these are same people who have a giigle when we see that you guys are suffering a heat wave because it 27 three days in a row. :)

When asked why they decided to leave the UK, the most common reason was 'the climate'. We complain about it all the time, but the funny thing is, visitors seem to like it. While we get tired of the grey, cool weather, foreigners are just glad that it doesn't try to kill them. You're much less likely to die of skin cancer (4x more likely in Oz), and hurricane-force weather is very rare; it's all a bit boringly safe.
Having said that, 27c feels a lot different here, because we don't have your dry heat.

I guess it's the old grass is greener argument. As for the temperatures feeling different it can work the other way as well. My parent grew up in Melbourne and I remember them saying that 10C in Melbourne is often felt colder than 10C when they were in London because there seemed to be less in wind in London.

Mind you, because of all the dampness, our grass probably is greener.
