Nearest And Dearest - Hit or miss?

Personally I love it

Hylda Baker getting the wrong word in what she would say and end up saying things like "Are you trying to inseminate something?"

Laughing out loud

Wales

I've not watched it in a while (and only the first series so far, even though I have the box set), but yes. :)

It has dated, it's got to be said. Though when you watch an episode today, it does raise a smile and there are some really funny moments in it, but it is let down by two things. Firstly, Jimmy Jewell's acting but the worst thing about it is the name-calling between Stan (I think that's what the Jewell character is called) and Eli (Baker). Shouting things like 'You Armpit' at one another is very frequent and unfunny. But yes, there were moments in it that are still very funny and I would buy a DVD of it at a reasonable price.

What's 'reasonable'? PM me. :)

Edited from my last comment, the Hylda Baker character is called Nellie and the Jimmy Jewell character is called Eli.

I also love Nearest And Dearest, have all the DVD collection too. Not On Your Nellie was funny also, but the third series wasn't as good, I think there were only 4 episodes made because Hylda Baker broke her ankle or something plus a couple of the original cast weren't in this series either. Jack Douglas sort of took over but it wasn't the same. Huh?

Yep, just four. Pity really, and they could have found a workaround I would have thought, but heyho.

...heyho, It's off to work we go

"Have you been, Walter? I say, have you been?"

I remember this sitcom being pretty funny, but I don't think I'd want to watch it again, it would have dated too badly, I think.

Yes, definetly, but still would be worthy of a watch for the odd laugh. Do you remember the classic 'I really should get a small hand on this watch' line.

A little dated but still funny. :)

Wave Hi, I would really love to buy the DVDs cause I thought the series was great when I was a girl! But they don't have subtitles for the deaf or hard of hearing which is so disappointing. Boo hoo. :(

If anyone knows different I would really appreciate any help, thanks. :)

I've just checked my box set and can confirm that there are no subtitles on any of the seven series, I'm afraid.

Thank you for taking the time to check, much appreciated.
