Top Five Sitcoms Ever...

I wrote my top five down in a blog here:

Already getting told off for not including The Simpsons.

No Clone or Life Of Riley? pfft.

I've already made my position quite clear about the lack of Seinfeld. Take it as read that you're no longer in my will.

I can't be the only one who finds the American Office dreadful?

Nice blog list otherwise, though!

Good Blog man, I agree with Arrested Development what an amazing show, but yeah the lack of Seinfeld and The Simpsons is shocking. In my opoin you should have put the Offices together as one.

In no particular order...

Ab Fab
The Royle Family
Only Fools & Horses (ok, a bit tired now but a classic that still raises laughs)
I'm Alan Partridge
The Office

I chose the above because I think they have all been groundbreaking in their own way, and surely inspired other comedies. The following list is of a genre that I am unsure fits into sitcom but must have a mention.

Ideal
Nighty Night
League of Gentlemen
Psychoville

Hard to pick 5. But in no particular order.

Fawlty Towers
Blackadder
Only Fools And Horses
Phoenix Nights
Still Game

On The Buses
Only Fools And Horses
Benidorm
The Royle Family

You aren't the only one. I saw a few episodes of the American one before the orginal version and couldn't figure why everyone raved about it.

I don't think the English version was very popular here, even the American one took a a while to work. I still sometimes get strange looks from people when I ask if they've seen the orginal version.

For me:
1.Only Fools and Horses
2.Steptoe and Son
3.Blackadder
4.On the Buses
5.Bottom

I might start a 'Top 6.4 sitcoms' thread - we should leave no number unaccounted for...

Very difficult to pick just five, but...

1. Steptoe & Son
2. Only Fools And Horses
3. Hancock's Half Hour
4. On The Buses
5. Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads

Wow at the replies...

Anything past 1990 get into this list? - Has anyone mentioned Are You Being Served??

For me, number 1 spot goes to Peep Show just for outrageous reasons, 2nd place goes to (for nostalgia's sake) Are You Being Served?, 3rd place goes to Bottom, 4th Futurama (not The Simpsons sorry), 5th White Van Man (although a newcomer, I can see long lasting series).

Agree, very hard to pick 5. Oddly, 4 of yours would be very high on my list and yet I can't stand Blackadder!

My top 2 are easy and then it's a case of trying to fit about 30 into 3 slots.

1. Only Fools
2. Porridge

This would change by the hour but at the moment, I'm thinking:

3. Fawlty Towers
4. Still Game
5. In Sickness And In Health

I'm pretty sure I've done this here before :) Assuming it is stricly Britcoms only:

1. Blackadder
2. Yes Minister / Yes, Prime Minister
ehhmm...fairly large space inserted. After that, in no particular order:
One Foot in the Grave
The Vicar of Dibley
'Allo 'Allo!

US sitcoms:
MASH
Frasier
(again, a large space)
Friends
Arrested Development
Mad About You
