Sketch show formats

What sketch shows do you think have the best format? Theere is the format where there is a bit of stand-up with sketchs in between, sketches runing into each other like Python. The Fast Show type format. Or ones where there is a thread runing through and the skeches fit togeter like The Day Today or Brass Eye. Some have running gags or catchphrases. What do you think works best?

I'm not sure that either Brass Eye or The Day Today are sketch shows - they just chop about due to the nature of what they're satirising.

Of late, I have rather enjoyed the stand-up/sketch mix, particularly in The Omid Djalili Show - there's a certain warm tone to them that I like. The themed, high-concept shows (No Signal, The Kevin Bishop Show) tend to be patchier and less engaging because of the way they've limited themselves.

But there's certainly space for all.
