Have you ever heard any of Richard Herring's riffs on this subject? He mentions GS a number of times in the early C&H podcasts. At one point he talks about "the paucity of that man's ambition" as upon discovering a genuinely mind-bending time-travelling portal, he nonchalantly shacks up with a the first 1940s barmaid he meets in pub 20 yards away from the portal.
